Author: Lara Adrian
Series: Midnight Breed #1
He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.
Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.
Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .
Okay I had read this one a long time ago but I am so far behind on this series and I forgot some of the guys and what exactly happens. So I figured why not re-read it.
I was in the mood for a good paranormal and I love me some Black Dagger Brotherhood and I remember coming across this series a while back and people saying it is similar. I do enjoy re-reading books but I love reading a book for the first time. I can honestly say I envy those people who read a book for the first time when I have read it already. I love that initial feeling of learning about the characters and falling in love with them for the first time.
So on to this one it starts off with a ‘flash back’. It was interesting I was pulled in and wanted to know what happened! But that will come later. We get to meet Gabrielle, she is a photographer who loves to shoot these photos of desolate areas. I instantly liked her because I love those kind of pictures… empty graveyards in black and white, empty buildings that are kind of falling apart or tagged up. I have always been drawn to those kind of pictures so I thought … hmmm I like this girl already. She sees something that she doesn’t know what to do about. She goes to the police and well Lucan who watches her in the club and sees her when he is out hunting Rouges (which are vampires from the breed that turn from blood lust – which is taking in too much blood at one time or taking too much too often) uses that as an opportunity to go and see her to see what she knows and what she saw.
There is a lot that goes on and a lot to learn. This one for me was easier to get right from the start because there are not any made up words that I had to learn what they meant. Not that I don’t love learning new words to use around my husband and watch him look at me in complete confusion.
Okay so things happen and she starts getting feelings and he starts getting feelings and like any man he wants to fight them. That was fun to actually read about. There is a lot that happens, there is a lot that she has to learn and try to understand.
There is a fight that goes on every night when most are in bed. The warriors (Lucan and his guys) go out to rid the world of the Rouges. In this book we learn that there is something brewing something big.
I will say that even though I had read this book before there was a part that I had completely forgot about. When I got to it in the book I thought I had it figured out and I was wrong! It was like in some parts of the book I was reading it for the first time. I was sitting there reading saying to myself ‘no way’, ‘oh my god’. I was completely at a loss at one point. My heart hurt at another.
I love when I find a good paranormal series. If you are looking for a good read about Vampires this is a good one!
I will be moving on to the next now. 🙂 Happy reading all!
