10 synopsis

You ever wonder what events led up to an individual’s inability to trust? Love Lost starts off by peeling back layers of a young girl who experienced the loss of essential, reliable and nurturing love.

Rayna Brimm, hailing from an inner city in New Jersey, survives a series of betrayal and loss only to forge forward in self-preservation and obtain an education in North Carolina. After receiving her degree, vowing never return home, she finds herself in California where she tries to build a self-contained life. She made a personal declaration to get through life without further dependence on others in order to avoid yet another heartbreak. Only, fate said otherwise.

Enter Azmir Jacobs, a tall, dark, handsome and very wealthy man, who has street credibility and executive power in the corporate world. Azmir has money, power and beautiful women at his beckon call, BUT only one woman has caught his eye. The resilient Rayna Brimm, a woman whose dysfunctional upbringing contributes towards her tough skin, issues with trust and a deep-seated fear to love, turns out to be more than he bargained for when he discovered her in his boardroom presenting a leasing proposal.

Rayna isn’t the only one with a checkered past. Can Azmir conceal his convoluted life long enough to prove that he can provide Rayna the stable and reliable love that she clearly needs and deserves? Or will his lofty lifestyle and endless resources scare her away?

Just when you thought you’d begun the read of an urban novel, you turn the pages and find this is by no means an urban novel, but the journey of a classic love tale and a story of redemption instead. The Love’s Improbable Possibility series is a slow weaving journey of love. Be prepared to progress into the world of Rayna Brimm. A story of loves redemption.

How did you come up with the concept for this series?

I started out just wanting to write a romance story about a young woman from humble beginnings. Then over time, as I started spending more time vetting the main characters, I grew intimate with them. In no time, what was intended to be a simple, one book romance novel turned into a darn series! Now the story includes two complicated individuals, accidentally bumping into an opportunity at love.

Are any of the characters based on people you know?

Not at all. These characters are purely fictional. Some names are borrowed from people actually know for comedic purposes, but that’s all.

What did your family/friends think about the book?

I’m getting GREAT responses from them. I won’t get used to this though. The first installment of Love’s Improbable Possibility (L.I.P) is still new yet, and we’ve recently released the second. I come from a religious family so I know I’m due a verbal thrashing somewhere down the pike. A.D. Jacobs enjoys himself some Rayna – intimately! LOL!!

What would you say is the easiest / hardest thing about writing?

The easiest thing is coming up with characters and scenes. The most challenging is getting the opportunity to sit down and record (write) them thoroughly.

What was the hardest part to write in Love Lost?

Rayna’s beginnings were hard to write and pre-edit. I had to adapt a certain mentality to make her environment come alive. It was difficult to stay true to the characters in the first two chapters because that portion of the storyline is so misleading. Some may start Love Lost and think it’s an urban novel when it isn’t. In the end, I decided to keep her childhood in the story because it truly demonstrates her struggle to accept love later on in the series.

Sidebar: I’m glad you didn’t ask about the easiest. ***face heating up***

Were there any authors that inspired you to write?

I can’t identify any authors who inspired me to write per se, but I enjoyed Eric Jerome Dickey when I started reading heavily. Since, I’ve enjoyed much of S.H. Kolee & Sylvia Day’s work.

How many books are you planning for this series?

There are four books in the L.I.P. series: Love Lost, Love UnExpected, Love UnChartered and Love Redeemed.

Tell us 3 things about yourself that not everyone knows

My birth certificate reads: Love Belvin (and in that order)

I don’t have a favorite author.

And I don’t fancy the word “cock”.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not writing (not counting reading)?

I LOVE following pop culture, learning what the celebrities are up to. I also enjoy going to live concerts.

Lightning round…

Not a big fan of candyFruity Mentos maybe.

Non-alcoholic: cranberry cocktail juice

Alcohol: Cosmopolitan or Riesling

Ice Cream flavor…

Don’t have one… depends on the way the wind blows hormonally for me.

OMGoshPretty Woman ***covers face in shame*** YeahI’m THAT kinda girl.

I don’t really have ONEperhaps five.

Song at the moment…

Not sure. I go back and forth,

Part of a man (not counting the obvious 😉 mine is the back. Oh lawd when they got it defined. YUM)

Mmmmmmprobably absOR, legs! Legsnicely shaped legs!

TV show…

Scandal is rockin’ right now!

Well that’s about it… Thank you for takin time… 🙂

Blog Tour ~ Demon at My Door by Michelle A. Valentine (Review & Interview)

Book: Demon at My Door

Author: Michelle A. Valentine

Series: Book #1

Gothic outcast Natalie Sugarman bartered her soul for her dying mother’s life sixteen years ago to a boy demon that could stop time. Now, days before her twenty-first birthday, the lifelines on her palms are slowly vanishing, and she knows it’s just a matter of time before Satan’s little helper collects.

Natalie’s tried numerous times to kill the demon and regain control of her soul’s destiny, but she always falls short. When she decides to try and gain the element of surprise for her next attempt, Natalie seeks answers about his location from a freaky, glowing-eyed fortuneteller. Creeped out by the psychic’s methods, she bolts from the reading and misses the warning that the demon who stole her soul is always closer than she thinks.

After some strange incidents with her new boyfriend, including a hot, levitating sex session, she realizes he’s the grown-up version of her little nightmare and he’s returned to collect on their deal. Natalie must figure out how to win her soul back from the demon before her lifeline completely disappears and she becomes his forever—even if that means making a deal to damn three other souls to take her place.

*Demon At My Door is a New Adult Paranormal Romance with very mature scenes*

~My Thoughts~

Usually when I read a paranormal it has vampires as well as werewolves. This one had, well, Demons. It drew me in within the first chapter. That is for sure. I wanted to know more and what was going to happen and how it was going to happen. I couldn’t put it down. We get to meet a few interesting characters. I love that even tough there are 2 main characters there are others in the book that are very important as well. I wont lie I kind of hope that this is not it and when I asked her and she said there will be one more book I got excited. I kind of hope that maybe Stew gets a book of his own too because well it left me wanting to know more about him.

We meet Rick and immediately fall in love with him, he treats Natalie like she is perfect just as she is. He never once shows that he wants anyone else but her. He wants to get to know her and she doesn’t seem to understand why, and to be honest if you grew up in a town where everyone avoided you, you would wonder why also. But leave it up to the new guy in town to bring out the inner girl in Natalie.

He always is there at the right moments and always has her back no matter what anyone says or does. Who wouldn’t want a guy like that? Just when things seem to get normal for her and you hope that the evil demon boy will just stay away things come up that throw you for a loop and make you say.. I KNEW IT! I KNOW I KNEW IT, I DIDN’T WANT TO BELIEVE IT BUT I KNEW IT!!!

Then when you think okay there is nothing else going to surprise you, ANOTHER moment comes to pass that has you wondering… WHY DID I NOT SEE THAT?

There were so many moments that had me thinking ohhhhh thats is good! I know for me one of the moments was when Michelle writes this: (it gave me the chills—mooofasssaahhh—say it again)

“All souls are reborn until they make a deal with a demon and commit themselves to do Satan’s work. If you don’t make a deal then you just keep getting reborn over and over.”

I know that for many, paranormal reads are not their thing and I can understand that; I was not much into them when I was younger but have been drawn in now that I am older but mostly with vamps and were’s. This one to me, although, yes it is a paranormal read, it is very believable as to something that could happen in everyday life. But then again I did just tell my husband I wanted to go visit Transylvania to see if we can meet any real vampires. But if you are looking for something that is not going to overwhelm you on the paranormal side and just want to dip your toes in and see if it might be something you might enjoy reading I would recommend this one!

It doesn’t bombard you with all this history of the creatures in the book, it is just about a demon, who makes a deal with a girl. That deal being her soul. As you read you will at times forget that it is a paranormal which some may find not a good thing, but that is one of the things I love about Michelle’s writing. You will be reading a book about a demon and then feel as though you are just reading about two normal people who are going through some things and just when you start to think I love these two people together, BAMM you are reminded this isnt just a normal read there are demons! She does such a good job not overwhelming people with stuff and making the story between the two people in the book the priority and I love that!

I am sure it will get some who may not normally read a paranormal book interested, because it is not so in your face with the “paranormal” side of it, it is there but in more of a subtle way. I know that I have some friends who are not paranormal readers and I will be sending them this as a recommended read. I have yet to be disappointed by her books and so I look forward to what is next.

4.5 starsBrandy

Hey Michelle….

So let me say that you have done a great job so far with the guys from Black Falcon but when I found out you were working on a paranormal I will say that I was a little nervous because I always get sacred before I read a new paranormal. But I wasn’t too worried since I know I already enjoy your writing. Okay so let’s get started.

B ~ So I know that you have said that paranormal is your first love so, Why not release that first?

M ~ I’ve written it for years, and to be honest I was about to give up writing until my friend, Kelli Maine, came up with the idea to switch genres all together. I need a change to jump start my love for writing again, so I just threw caution to the wind and wrote about something else I love…rock music. I started in the spring and fell in love with Noel and Riff. They drove me to write everyday, so I felt they deserved to be published first.

B ~ Okay so how did this story come to you?

M ~ I have a really twisted brain. I was eating lunch with my kid and thinking about people getting choked, and from there my odd mind took it to an entirely weird place.

B ~ Now you did have me a little torn there for a minute. I didn’t know who I had wanted her to end up with. I mean I knew who I did but well Stew kind of had some part of me that I just couldn’t let go of how Rick was with her so they both kinda had me. Was it hard to pick which one would be more dominant in the story?

M ~ In one version of this story, I left Stew as a complete asshole through the entire book and I still felt drawn to him. It was hard for me to pick between the two because each one has great chemistry with Natalie. Rick ended up winning me over, though. There was just something about him I loved more.

B ~ We are going to get more right? Is there going to be other books about some of the other characters in the book by chance?

M ~ There is one more book in Rick and Nat’s story. They aren’t done jumping through hoops just yet.

B ~ Okay so which paranormal books would be your favorites? I am a huge J.R. Ward fan myself.

M ~ I love Vampire Academy. I’ve read those books so many times. I also really love The Touch series by Laurie Faria Stolarz. Those books have great suspense. Sookie Stackhouse series is pretty great, too.

B ~ Now if you had to pick between Stew and Rick who would you pick? That is hard for me, because of the story of course I HAVE to pick Rick but something about Stew. I don’t know what it is that kept drawing me to him.

M ~ Deep down, I’m team Stew. I feel like he’s completely misunderstood, and I always root for the underdog. I kind of like the twisted guys a little. I still love Rick, too, but Stew is special when he gets his head out of his bum.

B ~ So what is going to be coming up once you finish up with the Black Falcon guys?

M ~ I have another book called Torturous Kisses I’m going to be working on after I wrap up Rock My Bed. It’s kind of like Diary of a Mad Black Woman meets Pure Country. Sounds totally crazy, I know, but my hero keeps talking to me and he’s got a lot to say. I can’t wait to get to him.

B ~ Is there anything personal in this story that you can tell? I know most writers what they know for the most part, and will sometimes put personal experiences in their books. 🙂 if it’s a secret I wont tell anyone 😉

M ~ There’s really nothing too personal in this one. I really just drew on everyone’s need for acceptance and the lengths some people will go to in order to get that.

Thank you for having me! ❤

I know I will be keeping an eye out for her new books! LOVE her!!!

Blog Tour ~ The Submission of Alistair Ingram by Kelli Maine (Interview)

Final 2

*click on cover pic for amazon link*

Book: The Submission of Alistair Ingram

Author: Kelli Maine

Series: Dolls & Doms #1

Movie star Alistair Ingram strolled into Dolls & Doms private men’s club in Las Vegas for his bachelor party and limped out with a torn shirt, red welts covering his chest and a broken engagement splashed all over the pages of every celebrity magazine in the country.

A session with club Dominatrix, Black Betty, will do that to a man.

With Alistair’s manager breathing down his neck and Black Betty’s abusive ex-husband alerted to where she’s been hiding for the past ten years, there’s only one thing to do:

And get the hell out of Las Vegas.

But the real ruse is on Alistair and Black Betty, because despite both of their best efforts, they’ve gotten under each other’s skin. Can their explicit dance of domination and submission end in anything other than disaster?

THE SUBMISSION OF ALISTAIR INGRAM is the first in a novella series from www.DollsandDoms.blogspot.com, where erotic tales from the Dolls & Doms private men’s club are told in weekly episodes.

My review is HERE

I grab my things, pay the taxi cab guy and make my way to one of the biggest houses I have EVER seen. I ring the doorbell, I am let in by someone who works for Mr. Ingram. She lets me know that he will be with me shortly and starts walking me towards a sitting room. She asks if I would like something to drink but I tell her no thanks. This is one of the biggest houses I have ever seen (well lets face it have ever been inside of). I am in awe, I mean to dust this place must be a pain in the ass right? Okay I need to snap out of it, get my stuff out and ready so when he walks in we can just get right to it. This time I decided to bring a recorder. Yes I decided to get all fancy and start recording these things since it makes it much easier to type it back out later. I sit in one of the most comfy couches and can totally see falling asleep here, I sit back and let my head fall back, it has been a very long day and well it wont hurt to close my eyes just for a minute right?
I hear a deep laugh and jump, damn it, did I actually fall asleep?

Wow that’s great, real professional! I look around and it was now dark. When I got here it was still light out, given the sun was getting ready to set but still. Now he will probably throw me out and not bother with the interview. I look back towards him and wow he is HOT. I wouldn’t mind tying him up that is for sure!

B ~ Oh My God I am SO sorry, I swear I didn’t mean to fall asleep I just put my head back and closed my eyes for like a minute, this is so unprofessional I am so sorry. I don’t mean to waste your time but if it is okay with you I will get right to it so we can get this over with and I will be on my way out. This is so embarrassing.

A ~ *chuckles* It’s fine doll. I thought about carrying you up to the guest room, but you looked so comfortable where you were. Take your time with the interview. I have all night for you.

Oh my… could he be anymore HOTTER right now. I cannot stop the heat from rushing over my body and face. Oh I don’t think he has the same thing in mind when he says he has all night for me. Ohh the things I would love to do with him. Snap out of it woman! You’re here for an interview NOT to try and get him into bed. Though he did say he was going to carry me to bed, and I didn’t have to even flirt. 🙂 I must be getting better at this.

B ~ Well sweetcheeks as much as I would love you to carry me to bed I am here to do a job. *gigling* Okay so I am sure you would say it was a good thing that your buddies all decided that Dolls & Doms because now you have the opportunity to get to know Black Betty better. My question is…What exactly drew you to her? I mean you guys didn’t talk much during your playtime.

A ~ *sits back and stretches his arms across the back of the couch* She scared the hell out of me. *wicked grin* Women don’t typically scare me. Or act like they want to hurt me. But, when I threatened to give it back to her, I saw the cracks in her tough exterior, the part she didn’t want me to see inside her. That’s when I knew I had to dig deeper. I couldn’t let it go. It became like an obsession for her to let me in.

B ~ I have to say, the whole rest stop scene was funny as hell. Did you ever even for a minute think that she was going to leave you there?

A ~ No. Even in her craziest moments, I knew I could trust her. She’s not a person who would hurt anyone intentionally. She likes to be in control, but she’s not evil. Leaving my ass locked in a rest stop loo would’ve been bloody evil.

B ~ Yes it would have been pretty evil. So we get the whole fact that you are not into the Dom/Sub relationship since well you both are very dominating for the most part…BUT please tell me we get to see her get you to submit completely even if it is once.

A ~ Well, aren’t you the little voyeur. *winks* Bethany is my weakness. I’d do anything she wanted me to, so you’ll have to ask her if she has plans to bring me to my knees and keep me there.

I take a minute and ask if I can get a glass of water also if I can use the restroom. He is such a smooth talker he can get any woman’s blood flowin that is for sure. He tells me where the restroom is I stand and step toward him to get the glass he is handing to me and practically falling over because my leg fell asleep. He catches me and asks if I am okay. Ohhh I couldn’t have planned that better. He is rock solid and smells divine! I just want to lick him, okay would he get mad if I licked his face? I guess I better not, but I do catch myself leaning in to sniff him and he starts to laugh. I snap out of my haze pull myself together and walk to the restroom and splash some water on my face and get back.

B ~ So it has to be hard to try and live a “normal” life when being out in the lime light like all you actors are. I have heard so many complain about how they just wish people would leave them alone sometimes. To be honest I had always thought, Well what do you expect? You went into this lifestyle knowing what could come of it, which means NO more privacy. Do you ever wish you could go back to being just normal you and not famous actor Alistair Ingram?

A ~ *takes a deep breath, looking contemplative* You know, you do expect to be recognized and to be photographed by paparazzi when you start out in this business, but I don’t think you realize how it runs your life. Everything I do will affect my career because it affects how I’m perceived by the public, which affects ticket sales at the box office. Even if I keep my private life private, there are managers and agents and producers influencing my decisions—or trying to—so it’s vital I keep control over my life and push back.

B ~ Okay so just how freaky are you? Do we get to see more of that side come out in the future?

A ~ Freaky? Me? I’m sorry, you do know Bethany, a.k.a. Black Betty, correct? She’s the freaky one. *quirks eyebrows* But I’m open to anything she has in mind, so if she’s a freak, I guess that makes me one by default.

Oh he has it in him. We all know it is there. She does seem to help bring it out in him.

B ~ So why are you so cocky? I mean don’t get me wrong every girl loves a cocky “bad boy” and well you are VERY easy on the eyes so you could probably get a way with A LOT, but in the end those with the Vagina rule the world! Just remember that! *laughing*

A ~ *Laughs loudly* Vagina’s rule the world! That’s the truth. They give the penis love as Bethany says. *chuckles* You really think I’m cocky? Well, I guess I’m used to taking what I want. That tends to go to the head. *watches Brandy’s eyes land in his lap* Ehem. Not that one. This one. *points to his head*

B ~ But I see that head *looking at his face* I wanna see that one *looking down to his lap* Okay sorry back on track, see you can be very distracting Mr. Ingram but I am sure you know that. So if you could get ANY role in ANY movie past, present or future which would it be?

A ~ Mr. Pink in Reservoir Dogs. Brilliant part.

B ~ So how many ‘toys’ do you have of your own supply? And would you care to demonstrate how they work? *winking at him*

A ~ My toys are limited to things like ice cream and whipped cream. Are you hungry for dessert?

B ~ Oh hun don’t make offers you are not willing to follow through with. *wicked grin* How serious is this between you and her? I mean is it monogamous? You taking offers by chance? *holding up my fingers crossed teasing him and trying not to laugh*

A ~ *pats Brandy’s leg* I’m afraid I’m desperately attached to Bethany. Her trust is delicate and a gift. I’d never do anything to break it.

Oh I think my heart just melted a little.

B ~ So what would you say we can expect from the story to come, without giving away too much that is.

A ~ *licks his lips grinning* If only I knew. Each day is a surprise with Bethany. I never know what to expect. We’re still doing our best to dodge the media and we’re hoping her ex is satisfied with wrecking her condo, although I seriously doubt it. But as long as I have her in my bed, Hell can rain down on us and I don’t even care.

B ~ Okay well it is getting late so I guess I will wrap up and let you go. Thank You for taking time to do this with me. Also for not kicking me out for falling asleep on the couch! (so embarrassing)

A ~ It is late. You’re welcome to stay in one of the guest rooms. I’ve enjoyed our chat, Brandy. It was a pleasure.

B ~ Are you inviting me to stay for a slumber party? *raising an eyebrow* If it isn’t too much trouble I would love to stay. I hate hotels. But I would never want to put you out.

A ~ What kind of host would I be if I made you stay in a hotel after going to all this trouble to interview me? I have more guest rooms than I can count, so you will certainly not be putting me out. Or is that you who would be putting out? There are still some Americanisms I’m not quite clear on.

I have to stop myself from laughing! I would so love to put out though! HAHA. He tells me to follow him and that he will show me where I will be staying. I am like a giddy little girl. I am staying in HIS house!!! I might have to take something just as a souvenir. He shows me around the room then heads to the door I follow him to the door ready to say goodnight.

B ~ Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. *biting my lower lip* if ‘Black Betty’ happens to show up tonight and wants to ‘play’ a little, you know where to find me. *winking at him* Till then, goodnight sweetheart.

I reach out grab his shirt and pull him towards me and kiss his cheek. Then turn to walk away.

Blog Tour – Turning Point by Tiffany A. Snow (Review & Interview)

Book: Turning Point

Author: Tiffany A. Snow

Series: Kathleen Turner #3

Purchase at: Amazon ~ Barnes and Nobel

After her promotion from law firm Runner to Investigator, Kathleen Turner is learning the ropes of her new job from none other than assassin-for-hire Kade Dennon, a situation her boyfriend Blane Kirk is none too happy about. But the lessons with Kathleen take a back seat when Kade becomes a target. Previously untouchable, his enemies now know of the chink in his armor – his brother’s girlfriend.

And Kade’s not the only thing coming between Kathleen and Blane. From Blane’s inexplicable defense of a man guilty of a horrible crime, to a mysterious stranger from Kathleen’s past, to Kathleen’ risky investigation into human traffickers, the obstacles mount against a relationship that’s just begun to find trust again.

While Blane considers a job offer that would take him back to the front lines in the war on terror, Kathleen is determined to pursue her new career, with or without his approval. Unfortunately, her current case is far more dangerous than anyone knows. Someone close to Blane will go to extreme lengths to split them up, lengths that may prove worse than death for Kathleen.

Kathleen, Blane and Kade must atone for the sins of the past and the present. The fallout will force Kathleen to a turning point…in her career, and her life.

~Our Thoughts~

WOW! Okay so after reading right through I thought that I would be able to pretty much predict what was going to happen and well for some of it I was able to, but there are many points in this one that had me at a loss. I kicked myself for waiting for sol long to read these and I am also kind of glad that I waited because I was able to read all 3 back to back because I did wait. I think for me this one was my favorite! I got a nice mix of both Blane and Kade but I have to say that in the end I was happy with how things ended in it. I was left wanting more as always and wanting so desperately for Kade to move in. Kathleen is so set on NOT coming between the brothers though, so that puts a kink in MY plans for her. heehee.

There were so many moments that Kade had me cracking up, the sexual tension was driving me UP THE WALL!!! I want her to be happy with Blane because well that is who she has chosen but how can she not want Kade, but he knows that in reality she deserves better.

“Neither Blane nor I are your happily-ever-after, princess. Blane will break your heart, and I’m the guy your mom warned you about. Don’t kid yourself about that.”

The problem that I did have with it was at this point I felt like the relationship with Kathleen and Blane felt like it was kinda of over, like he just wasn’t all that much into her. I felt like he was more into himself then their relationship, and she was so torn between what she felt for Blane and what she felt for Kade, and big surprise she DOES NOT listen when they tell her to do one thing she goes and does the opposite it seems like BUT it makes for a great story!

There is an OMG moment (or at least I thought that it was) that just brought things to a turn and leaves you not sure where things will go. (yes I had a ohhhh that’s why she named the book that!) ALL I know is that I NEED the next one!!! I don’t want to wait until December but that is what I will have to do! 😦

This one goes much deeper on a subject matter that may be difficult for some to read. It is NEVER okay nor is it ever acceptable on ANY circumstance! (I do not want to give spoilers so I will not put exactly what it is but once you read you will know what I mean.)

4.5 stars

Wow!! Another great book in the Kathleen Turner series! So much action, romance, betrayal, and love. Let me just start by saying I would not want to be in her shoes having to try to pick between Blane and Kade! Blane is a successful, handsome, sexy man who loves Kathleen. Kade is his dark, sexy brother who wants her as well. Kade is constantly testing and teasing her, but she is one strong woman to turn him down so often! She doesnt want to come between brothers, but there is an obvious attraction to both men.
I love the action and the suspense of these books. But, that being said, how many times can one person get into a situation to get banged in the head and black out in one lifetime?? I mean come on! Maybe if she listened to the men in her life warning her, she wouldnt fall into the crazy stuff she does as often! And how she manages to live and not get too seriously injured is beyond me.
And of course what series would be complete without yet another cliff hanger after a heart wrenching event? Yep that’s right. Tiffany Snow leaves us hanging for the 4th book in the series. But she does tease us a bit with the 1st chapter!
Overall I really liked this book and was happy with how it flowed. Now, I’ll have to patiently wait for the 4th installment to see what happens next!

Thank you to Momma’s Books for hosting me on the blog tour for TURNING POINT, the third book in The Kathleen Turner Series. There will be a total of five books in the series.

Book four, OUT OF TURN, will be released on 12/17/13.

For this blog stop, Momma was kind enough to ask a few questions (which always helps since I never know what to write on these things!). So thank you and here they are!

Q: How did you come up with the characters?

A: Kathleen Turner is a bit of an homage to one of my favorite literary characters of all time – Nancy Drew. An amateur sleuth (emphasis on amateur), Kathleen is someone I wanted people to be able to relate to. She’s not a city girl, being from the Midwest, and “big city” to her is Indianapolis, the location for the series. Nice, sweet, loyal, trusting, pretty – Kathleen is all these things. She’s someone who could be your best friend, your neighbor, your sister, or yourself. She’s a bit naïve, a bit too trusting and yet, at the same time, not trusting enough, with a big heart.

Blane and Kade are two sides of the same coin. Alpha-males with a penchant for danger, an overprotective streak, sexy as sin and both with an eye for Kathleen. However, while Blane is a Navy SEAL turned attorney, Kade works on the opposite side of the law as a hired assassin. As with so many men, their careers affect their lives, character and the people they love. To finish it off – they’re brothers. Loyalty is a theme that runs throughout the series and I explore what that means for Kathleen as well as for the brothers.

Q: What do you do when you get writer’s block?

A: I’m constantly asking myself the question “What happens next?” Coming up with that takes some time. When I find myself in need of inspiration, I like to find a “theme song” that helps me get inside the characters’ heads, to feel what they’re feeling. A theme song I listened to many times while writing TURNING POINT was “For You” by Keith Urban. I felt it helped me get into Blane’s head. As I’m writing OUT OF TURN (book four in the series), I find myself drawn to “Whataya Want From Me” by Adam Lambert and “More Than a Memory” by Garth Brooks.

Q: What is your favorite thing about writing?

A: All my life I’ve read voraciously and it’s given me hours and hours of entertainment, pleasure and escape. It’s such a wonderful thing now to be able to write my own world and offer that same entertainment, pleasure and escape to others. It’s kind of my way of “paying it forward.” One of the best emails I ever received was from a woman who was going through cancer treatment and said it was so wonderful for her to be able to escape her own life for a few hours and delve into Kathleen’s. To hear that I was able to offer that to her, a complete stranger, was the most wonderful feeling.

Q: When did you know that writing was what you wanted to do?

A: Not until very recently, actually. I never really considered writing a book as something I could do, at least, not until I sat down and tried. To my surprise, I not only could write a whole book, I really enjoyed the process. Once I wrote that first book, writing got in my blood and I haven’t stopped.

Q: Do you have a set number of books for the series?

A: Yes. I love reading series of books where it’s the same characters, but one of my pet peeves are series that continue way past the time they should (at least in my opinion). I didn’t want The Kathleen Turner Seriesto be one of those. So I decided at the outset how many books there would be and that was that. They are:

1. No Turning Back

2. Turn to Me

3. Turning Point

4. Out of Turn (12/17/13)

5. Point of No Return (TBD)

With the freezing cold temperatures and the achromatic scenery, Fort Drum New York is the epitome of a dull and dreary winter; that is until cupid’s annual vomit infects the city with pink and red and yes, hearts and flowers.

Ronnie Clark, an edgy tattoo artist with hopes of high tailing it out of this forsaken Military town she followed her now ex-fiancé to, is counting down the days until Valentine’s Day – a pathetic excuse for a holiday, is over.  Ronnie doesn’t do love.  She doesn’t do flowers or dates, and she sure as hell doesn’t do romance.  After her fiancé slept with a female solider while deployed, she has vowed never to fall in love again, especially with a soldier.
But as karma, fate, or the mocking divine powers of the universe would have it, her promise is put to the test when she is scheduled to do a tattoo on Sergeant First Class Kale Emerson.
SFC Emerson has no family to come home to and no girlfriend anxiously waiting for him, so when he returns to the states for R&R he only has one thing on his mind, returning to his deployment to finish leading his soldiers on their mission.  The last thing Emerson wants is a relationship. Relationships aren’t for him, but casual sex, that’s a different story.   And when he meets the renowned tattoo artist Ronnie Clark, a snarky, blunt, takes no prisoners kind of woman, that seems to be all he can think about.
Against Ronnie’s best efforts to withstand temptation, she finds herself not only attracted to the clean cut, put together Kale Emerson, but she finds herself giving into the very thing she has sworn against; a soldier.  Holed up in her house, determined to hide away from the fluff and mush that inhabits Valentine’s Day, Ronnie gets a little carried away with Kale when he surprises her with a visit.  After mind blowing sex that makes Ronnie slam on the brakes while leaving Kale wanting more, they decide the only way to continue this and keep true to their no romance or relationship mottoes would be to come up with an agreement; a just sex policy, their very own Valentine’s arrangement.
But when Kale realizes he has met his match with a bombshell woman who is hell bent against love, will just sex be enough?  And if it’s not, will he be able to convince Ronnie that the proverbial hearts and flowers aren’t so bad after all, even if he is a soldier?

Chapter 1

Three more days and this hearts and flowers shit would be over.  Three more days and the boxes of chocolates filled with things that should definitely not be paired with chocolate would be cleared from the shelves, the cheesy ‘Be Mine’ balloons would deflate, and those damn stuffed gorillas, holding giant hearts, singing ‘Wild Thing’ would be put to rest.

It was almost Valentine’s Day in upper state New York and the typical achromatic atmosphere at Fort Drum was replaced with shades of pinks and reds; complete with love banners and window decorations filled with hearts and chubby babies holding arrows.  It was Ronnie Clark’s personal week of hell.

Needless to say, Ronnie was not a fan of the lovey, dovey mushy shit; in fact, that was putting it graciously.
It was getting late, and Ronnie was listening to the soft tick of the second hand on her watch as she softly pressed the needle dipped in black ink into the hip of some lovesick barracks brat who had finally landed herself a Private.  You would think these girls would learn, right? Soldiers are lonely, and yes, they look damn good in uniform, but the young single ones are dangerous.  They fall hard and fast and pull you in with their puppy love eyes and promises of forever. These girls know it too; they are looking for it, and once they find it, it’s a ring on the finger, a judge officiated ceremony, and more often than not, it’s matching ink declaring their love for one another. Blah blah blah…
“Alright Kara, I’m almost done with this locket.  Are you sure you want me to put Craig’s name under it?  Names are not fun to cover up and I charge double to do it.  I’m giving you your chance now,” she said as she wiped the ink on Kara’s hip, smearing it across the Celtic locket.  Branding was not Ronnie’s thing, but in this town, she was lucky if she went an entire work week without getting stuck doing at least one.
“Yes, I’m sure.”  She narrowed her eyes at Ronnie before she turned them to her eager new husband that was holding her hand.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Ronnie mumbled under her breath.  Oh how she wished she could just slap some sense into this girl.  Sure, Craig was every shade of hot and even Ronnie had an image of him without his uniform on begging to be brought to the forefront of her mind, but he was not tattoo worthy.  No man was.  No man was that damn permanent.
“Your 6:30 sketch consult is here,” Harold said, popping his tiny ass head into Ronnie’s room.
Ronnie slathered some ointment on top of the freshly branded flesh.  “Tell him I will be there in a few, I’m just finishing up this girl’s latest mistake.”
“Ronnie!”  Harold admonished, but he knew good and well that Ronnie said and did what she wanted and even he couldn’t stop her.  She was too good of an artist to let go anyway.  She was the best he had ever seen.
Ronnie lifted her head and raised her eyebrows at Harold, challenging him.  He just shook his head and walked away.
“Alright, keep it clean but don’t mess with it too much.”  She covered the girl’s tattoo with a non-stick bandage and taped it down before turning and cleaning up.
“Harold will check you out.”  She stood from her chair and headed out of the room without as much as looking back behind her.
Most would call her rude, but she liked to think of it more as ‘real’.  She didn’t sugar coat anything and she wasn’t going to pretend to like you if she didn’t.
Ronnie sashayed to the front of the tattoo shop. She had one last client tonight and then she could slip off her heels and go home.  Sure, she was going home to nothing, and not because her fiancé was still deployed and overseas, but because her fiancé was now an ex-fiancé and her solo living arrangement was now irreversible.  Apparently her fiancé had a problem keeping it in his pants while he was gone, and his squad’s female medic just so happened to be the lucky one to help him with his little, and she did mean little, dilemma.  Okay, maybe she was being a smidge too hard on him…nah.
The shitty thing about it all, well other than her fiancé sleeping around on her, was that she found out from someone else.  His best friend, who just so happened to be deployed with him called and told her what was going on. When she confronted her fiancé about it he didn’t even deny it, just acted like she should forget about it.  He was half way across the world, how could she possibly think he could wait that long?  Fucking prick.
“Kale Emerson?” Ronnie said, scanning the waiting room.  There were only two people there, one was Harold’s intern who was waiting to do his nightly bitch work, and the other one was a fuckingly handsome Captain America impersonator.  He was tall, broad, and his well-defined arms were bulging through the thin material of his shirt.  His sandy brown hair was cut short, barely enough on top to run your hands through, and of course he had to have blue eyes that seemed to grab onto hers with a force that held her captive.  And for the first time in a long time, she felt vulnerable.
Kale Emerson turned around as a melodic voice sang out his name.  Standing next to the front counter, was a brunette bombshell in the sexiest purple heels he had ever seen on a woman’s feet, making her damn near as tall has he was.  Her legs went on forever and her almost black hair hung down past her shoulders and curled at the ends.  Kale would like to say he saw her deep brown eyes first, but lying wasn’t his strong suit and so help him if those lips weren’t the first thing on that gorgeous face that caught his attention. They were plump, full, and cherry red and they parted into a smile when his eyes finally locked on hers.
Kale sauntered up to the counter and outstretched his hand.  “Hi, I’m Kale.  I have an appointment with Ronnie.”  The woman looked at his hand but didn’t make a move to place hers in his.
“You’re looking at her,” she said bluntly.
            “You’re Ronnie?”
“Guilty.  Come on back.  We can talk in the design room.”
Kale followed Ronnie through the narrow hallway, lined with framed drawings of cryptic angels and dragons, among other things.  The entire place smelled like antiseptic cleaner, but Kale could still smell the hint of vanilla and musk that lingered in the air as Ronnie passed through.  She was wearing a tight black shirt that dipped low into a V in the back, showcasing a delicate dream catcher tattoo that started at the base of her neck and ended at the curve in her spine.  The entire tattoo was done in shades of black; the only color was the turquoise beads dangling from the dream catcher.  It was stunning; he had to refrain from reaching out and tracing it with his finger.
“Right in here.”  Ronnie stopped in front of a door leading to a large room and gestured for him to go on in.
“Ladies first,” he said, reaching his hand out toward the open space in the door.
Ronnie’s thick black eyebrows arched up and her full lips curved in a sexy ass smirk.  “I’m no lady,” she said, then turned toward the room and glided in.
Kale followed her past the black sofa and flat screen TV to the back of the room where a large glass table with black leather desk chairs took up the back wall.
Ronnie sat down at the table, crossing her legs, and her shoe slipped off her heel causing it to dangle from her toes.  Fuck, those heels were hot.  Kale had been home from Iraq for all of six days.  He had yet to sleep with a woman and this one sitting in front of him was becoming tempting.
Kale lived alone.  He had no family to go home to so coming back to Fort Drum for R&R was the only option.  If he had his way, he would have just stayed with his squad and continued to lead his troops, but he didn’t have his way and it was mandatory he took his leave.  He waited until after the holidays, allowing all of his men with families and kids to make it home for Christmas and the New Year, leaving him with the only option to come home now.  Six days down, eight more to go then it’s back to the sand pit and Kale couldn’t wait.
One perk about getting the hell out of that country was the women.  It had been eight months since he had been in the States, and it had been eight months since he has had sex.  Casual sex was Kale’s forte.   He didn’t do relationships or commitment, just sex.  Kale didn’t have time to worry about putting someone else ahead of him; hell, he didn’t even have time to put himself ahead of him. His soldiers came first, they always have.  He loved his country and he loved his job, and for him, a woman just didn’t quite fit into that equation.  No woman he has ever been with has been able to change his opinion, but that didn’t stop him from needing a woman to get underneath him from time to time.  Now was one of those times and he wanted Ronnie to be that woman.
“Alright let’s get down to business,” Ronnie said, sliding a sketchpad in front of her from the middle of the table. “What do you have in mind?”
Her voice broke through his mental slush pile and brought him back.  “I want a memorial tattoo.”
Kale leaned back in his chair.  “I want a poem, a soldier’s prayer.  I want it tattooed on my back and I want it to look like my skin is ripping, revealing the words.”
Ronnie wrote notes on her sketchpad.
“And I want the names of my fallen brothers to be after the prayer.”
Ronnie looked up at Kale and an emotion flashed across her face that he didn’t quite understand.  It wasn’t pity, was it awe?
“That’s beautiful,” she said quietly.  Kale didn’t know the first thing about this woman, but he gathered she didn’t throw out compliments much.  “How does the poem go?” she asked, her eyes returning to her sketchpad preparing to write.
            “Lord, I ask for courage.
            Courage to face and
            Conquer my own fears and
            Courage to go where
            Other will not
            I ask for strength.
Strength of body to protect others and
Strength of spirit to lead others.
            I ask for dedication.
Dedication to my job, to do it well.
            Dedication to my country,
            To keep it safe.
            Give me, Lord, certainty,
            For those who trust me
            And compassion for those,
Who need me, and Please Lord,
Through it all, stay by my side

            And may my fallen brothers

            Walk with you now, Lord.
Kale cleared his throat after he finished the names of his fallen soldiers, and rubbed his hand over the back of his head.  Their eyes met and Kale’s mood shifted back.  One look at her and he couldn’t seem to think of anything but touching her.  Yes, it apparently had been a long time because he felt like a twelve-year-old boy who just saw his first pair of boobs.
“I can have this ready for you tomorrow, when would you like to get started?”  Ronnie asked as she closed her sketchpad and stood up. Kale stood up as well, his body leaning a little closer to her than he intended and she took an immediate step back.
“Tomorrow will be fine.”  Kale shoved his hands in the pockets of his jeans to keep himself from grabbing her tiny waist and pulling her against him.  That thought kept taunting him and he was damn ready to do it.
“Okay.” She narrowed her big brown eyes at Kale, confusing the hell out of him.  Ronnie walked back to the door and stopped, turning around with a hand on her hip.  “You can stop mind fucking me now.”
Kale’s eyes came close to popping out of his head.  “Excuse me?”
Ronnie rolled her eyes.  “Let’s get this straight, Soldier.  I’m not sleeping with you.  You can get it out of your pretty little head, and I suggest you do so before I stick a needle to your skin.”  She turned back around, her sexy heels clicking out of the room.
Holy shit, he was sexy.  And the way he was looking at her? He was threatening to make Ronnie come undone right there in the design room.  She was used to having men gawk at her.  She worked in a man’s industry and had been subject to more than her fair share of pathetic one-liners and roaming eyeballs, but the way Kale looked at her was different, she didn’t know what it was, but it was different.  He was unashamed as he took her in, but he wasn’t vulgar or offensive about it.  He was just…hot.  But he was a soldier and Ronnie sure as hell didn’t do soldiers, not anymore.
“Since this is a large tattoo I need you to be my last appointment of the day.  Can you be here tomorrow night at 7:00?”  Ronnie asked as Kale finally emerged from the hallway.
“I will be here.”  He looked her in the eyes, unwavering and unaffected from the little threat she gave in the other room.
Before Kale walked around the reception desk, he stopped at the end of the hall and leaned in close to Ronnie.  Her body jolted to attention the moment the heat from his breath hit her neck.  She was about to spit out words to him that even her trailer park sailor swearing momma would be embarrassed by when his hand touched the small of her back.
“For the record Sweetheart, I wasn’t mind fucking you, but thank you for putting that image in my head.”  He pulled away and his pretty boy, clean cut, ‘yes sir’ persona faltered a little bit. The corners of his mouth tilted just slightly into an imperative smile, but it didn’t last long.   “See you tomorrow night.”  His tone was now formal, like he hadn’t just planted goose bumps along the side of her neck.  Fuck, tomorrow was going to be interesting.

Teaser 1

Ronnie watched as Kale inhaled a deep breath, seemingly lost in thought.  His eyes turned to hers for the briefest of moments, but it was long enough for her to see the myriad of emotions swimming beneath them.  Anger and pride, pain and loss, honor and determination.  It was like watching a funnel cloud form in clear blue skies.

Teaser 2

They held each other’s eyes, neither one saying anything to the other, neither one needing to at that moment—it was all there encrypted in the flecks that dotted their eyes. He saw regret in hers, mirroring back the feeling that was eating a hole in his stomach. The only difference was, he wasn’t sure her regret matched his own—the regret of not having more, more time, more…her.
