10 synopsis

An epic love. An epic hate. An epic story that would last a lifetime.

I hurt. I hurt so deeply, I felt the pain searing in my bones and jabbing like a hot poker into my heart. I knew nothing would make it better as the memories pulled from the crevices of my mind, detailing the bad and the ugly, filling my thoughts with regret as I slipped into the darkness. . .

When I was eight, my mother was dying of cancer, my father lost his job, and the bank kicked us out of our house. I was forced to move to the strange town of Arlis, Texas where my father and I slept in our car in the hospital parking lot. Desperate and hopeless, we lived on fumes of our former life.

Then one night, everything changed forever. A knock on the car window brought a family into my life that I only wanted to shut out. I hated charity and I hated the Masons. Well, except one. He made it impossible to hate him.

Jess Mason had the biggest blue eyes and ornery smile of any boy I had ever seen. He was a ray of sunshine in my dark world. A boy full of adventure, dragging me across the meadow of Sprayberry Ranch; a beautiful Texas paradise full of horses and tree houses that got us into more trouble than anyone ever imagined.

Jess was my everything as a kid until we grew up and the rules changed. Instead of living happily ever after with a boy full of love. . . I destroyed it.

Review

This book was all over the place so many bloggers I follow were talking about it and how amazing it was. I knew I just had to start it in the hopes that I would feel the same way.

Though I hate to say that I didn’t fall in absolute love with it the way others did. It was a good book, it was a sweet story, I did enjoy it overall. I just didn’t feel as pulled into it as I wished I would have been. It took me around four days to read it because I just kept losing interest and would stop reading. It was a lot of back and forth and back and forth which overall is not an issue but I just wanted to know what was going on in the now (today) in the book when we get so little of it.

I know that many loved this book and I LOVE when I find a book that so many adore, yet something in it fell flat for me. It just reminds me how different we all are and how what one person loves another may not.

For me I didn’t connect, although I felt for Alex, I just didn’t understand some things and was waiting for more of an explanation and didn’t get it (or maybe it was one of the times I read but just didn’t pay much attention to what I was reading). I understand the need for back-story but at the same time I felt like that is 90% of this book. I understood why Alex disliked the Mason’s but at the same time I felt like she was very ungrateful, considering what her life could have been.

Now the main reason I was not a big fan of this story would be the ending. I read this book with as I said about 90% of it being the back-story 36/54 chapters are her past (from her being the age of 6 to the age of 26 and not consecutively so one chapter will be when she was 6 the next when she was 8 then you will have around 5 chapters all when she was 16 years old and so on.) That didn’t bother me though, what killed me is we went from so much of their past to a little of the present then it jumps SO far into the future. I COMPLETELY understand that it was a long story as it was (which is not bad) but I felt like maybe she could have made it a duo that way she could have gotten more of the present in there that so many of us were actually looking forward to. (I won’t say exactly what because that would give spoilers)

I just felt like there was such a build up and then bam it was over and we got nothing much in between if that makes sense (for those who have read you will understand maybe).

It makes me happy to find out this is the authors first book and so many have read and loved it. I don’t question if she will only get better!!

Review

I got a message from the author asking if I would like to read and review their book. I read the synopsis and said sure. I will admit though I was not going into this positive that I would like it. Because if you have read my review on another love triangle you know that I am kind of not feeling them. BUT that being said I did enjoy this one more than I thought I would. There is so much that I didn’t honestly know what was going to happen.

Okay so, the beginning…that completely threw me. I was completely lost for a minute. I have come to understand that I do not usually care for prologues. Some give away too much, some are just pointless, some like this one confuse the hell out of me. I understand that sometimes I am slow. 🙂 The prologue was in the point of view of a guy. SO when I got to the first chapter I thought that was the point of view I was reading from. Then I figured out that I was wrong, so I went back and started it again. I will say that both men, Kevin and Roman were infuriating! I couldn’t understand what she found attractive in either one of them. Instantly I wanted to run from Roman, and I couldn’t understand what she saw in him, but there is something about a man who carries himself in such a way that you know he is confident. Then you have Kevin, he was fun, even sweet at times. Others, well he was just an ass. So when you have a girl who is so broken and lost because she lost the one man she loved and adored (her father). I can see how being sucked in by either one of these two can happen. They both give something to her that make her feel.

I have to say that there were so many things that Roman did that screamed RED FLAG. I just wanted to scream at her to run and run fast! But he made her feel something, something that she wanted and only he seemed to provide. Kevin was being weird with her, he wasn’t stepping up at first, otherwise I am sure she would have been with him… RIGHT????? Who knows. I just know that between the two of them I was so upset and did have to put the book down at some points because I wanted to just grab her and shake her and ask… “What is wrong with you? How did you NOT see that coming?”

I don’t want to give away too much but let’s just say that I was getting to the point where I was not looking forward to what was going to come because I thought I had an idea where it was going, then…BAM. Something I had no idea was coming. Something that had me questioning how I didn’t see it. I was just at a loss and left wanting to know what the hell “that” was all about.

I will read what’s next because I just have to know what the hell is going to happen. I need to know more about both Roman and Kevin. Why some things were done and not done.

10 synopsis

Long hidden feelings are revealed and friendships tested to the brink.

Review

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this one for the main reason that most of the new age books that I have read are all pretty much the same. I can’t say THANK YOU enough to K.A. Robinson for NOT making Chloe a virgin!! Not that I have anything against girls who are virgins in college but so many books have the girl loosing it to the bad boy in college. So this was the first thing that I am thankful for!

Second, it is a love triangle! I usually am not a huge fan of them but this one is written so well. I have to say that I never felt like I hated her or the guys. Some books I have read I usually end up hating the girl because she knows she is wrong and she doesn’t care. This one, well things just happen and are not intentional, she isn’t trying to sneak around that is yet another thing I enjoyed. I am tired of reading about these girls who whore around on their boyfriends and don’t care, they try to hide it and meet with the guys to have sex and don’t care who they hurt because all they care about is themselves.

I will have to say that this one pulled me in and I enjoyed it. I knew in my heart who I wanted for her. I knew who was right for her, it just took her a while to figure that out on her own. I kept telling her as I was reading but she wouldn’t listen to me. Who doesn’t love an over protective good guy who just cares so much for the girl I do, okay but not as much as I LOVE me a pierced, tatted up, bad boy rocker!!!! 😉

There is a cliffhanger but the second book is already out so that is not too bad, I don’t have to wait to find out what happens.

If you enjoy an angst filled love triangle mixed with some other issues she has from her life growing up, well this is for you. I wasn’t sure how well the book would come across because there was so much going on in it but it was done well! I would recommend it! Like I said I am usually not a huge fan of love triangles but this one had me. Once I started I couldn’t stop, it took me about 10 hours to finish the book. That’s with stopping to make lunch and dinner and running errands. 🙂 When I find something that sucks me in I will read ANY free time I have!

Review – The Perfect Game by J. Sterling

Blurb:

He’s a game she never intended to play.
And she’s the game changer he never knew he needed.

The Perfect Game tells the story of college juniors, Cassie Andrews & Jack Carter. When Cassie meets rising baseball hopeful Jack, she is determined to steer clear of him and his typical cocky attitude. But Jack has other things on his mind… like getting Cassie to give him the time of day.
They’re both damaged, filled with mistrust and guarded before they find one another (and themselves) in this emotional journey about love and forgiveness. Strap yourselves for a ride that will not only break your heart, but put it back together.
Sometimes life gets ugly before it gets beautiful…

My Thoughts:

I had read that this one was a good and sweet story and I have to say that I do agree! I fell absolutely in love with Jack Carter the minute he was introduced. I have always have a soft spot for egotistical, thinks highly of themselves bad boys! I mean who doesn’t?!

I enjoyed this one more than I thought because I wasn’t sure when I had started it if I was in the mood for a more tame book (compared to some of the books I have been reading) but it was a nice fun read. As I was reading I enjoyed it so much I was starting to wonder if this was going to be all good or if there was going to be a twist somewhere and just when I thought okay this is going to all be a happy fun book BAM.

There were times I was laughing because well lets face it they made me laugh when they were together a lot of the time. But they drove me crazy sometimes when they were together they were so worried about getting hurt they were afraid to open up to each other it is best explained:

“You’re both so screwed up alone that together you’re like the perfect mess.”

But I think for me (as well as others out there) there was a connection from being hurt in the past that you know exactly what it is like to want to put up that wall and not let anyone over because you just don’t ever want to be hurt again. So when reading some parts I just couldn’t help but want to yell out “AMEN” but then had to remember I am reading a book not at church. 🙂

“There will come a time in your life when you lose something that matters to you. You’ll fight for it and you won’t win. But what really matters isn’t the war you’re waging, it’s that you don’t lose the person you are in the midst of the battle.”

There are so many parts of this book that I could totally relate to and I enjoyed it for that. Reading a book that you can connect to on a personal level is always good and because of that it will always stick with me. I do also enjoy the jerky Jack Carter! He would have to be on my top of book boyfriends because of that! 🙂
So for anyone who wants a good read that does have angst in it but will drive up nuts because you want to scream WTF is wrong with you???? COME ON!!! Get with it FOOL!!! All those came from my mouth while reading .

Taking Chances by Molly McAdams

This is one of my favorite books!! and when I finished and found out she was doing another in Chase’s POV I was so exited! I am looking forward to it!

Eighteen year old Harper has grown up under her career Marine of a father’s thumb. Ready to live life her own way and experience things she’s only ever heard of from the jarheads in her father’s unit; she’s on her way to college at San Diego State University.

Thanks to her new roommate, Harper is introduced to a world of parties, gorgeous guys, family and emotions. Some she wasn’t expecting yet, and others she never knew she was missing.

She finds herself being torn in two as she quickly falls in love with her boyfriend Brandon, and her roommate’s brother Chase. Covered in tattoos, known for fighting in the Underground and ridiculously muscled…they’re exactly what she was always warned to stay away from, but just what she needs. Despite their dangerous looks and histories, both adore and would do anything for Harper, including stepping back if it means she’s happy.

Her first year away is turning out to be near perfect, but one weekend of giving in to heated passion will change everything.

MY THOUGHTS:
WOW!!! That was a VERY emotional ride and I loved EVERY minute of it. I couldnt think of how to descrbibe this book until I had come across a review that had the best way

“it is Beautiful Disaster meets Thoughtless”

I was so pulled into this book from the begining I was so drawn in and invested into the story I couldnt stop thinking about it and couldnt wait to get back to the book any time I had to put it down. I fell in love with BOTH Chase and Brandon and my heart broke throughout this book. I was sucker punched in the gut a time or two and then wanted to yell at Harper that she is so stupid and crazy and she needed to get with it!! I cried a few times reading this and it was hard to not feel like I was there when everything was happening. I just love when I find a book that can pull me in the way this one did.

If you want a love story that is absolutely FULL of angst and struggles along with sweetness and love this would be a GREAT choice. There were so many moments in this that I just fell in love with one of the characters or just have my heart ripped out of my chest. When one of the guys is talking to her and is trying to explain to her how much she is worth it :

“you deserve someone who has waited for you as long as you have waited for them. And no matter how much I wish I could be that guy, I can’t Harper.”

at the same time I did come across moments that made me laugh and me personally being someone that is on the “shorter” end as far as my height as Harper is this part had me cracking up:

“God you’re so short.” “No, the rest of you are just freakishly tall.”

all in all this is absolutely a must read and in all the angst that is in it there is so much love. It was easy to become obsessed with this book and feel as though you are there through everything that happens and when they hurt you feel it and when they are happy you feel that also when they are confused I can honestly say that for the first time reading a love triangle I didn’t know what to feel I felt as torn as Harper did. And that was a first for me. I am so glad that I took the opportunity to read this one it was absolutely worth it!!! It will pull you in and I know for me I will not forget this one. It is up there with my top favorite angst filled romance novels!

GREAT NEWS!!: I was looking at Molly’s blog (dont read the comments if you have not read the book there are spoilers posted) and she says that she is going to be doing another book but in Chase’s POV!! I am so beyond excited!!!!! NOW what would put me over the top is to find out they are making this one into a movie!!!!!!

Review – Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

GOODREADS DESCRIPTION:

The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate percentage of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance between her and the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs—and wants—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

MY THOUGHTS:

I had read this after I had been told that it is similar to the fifty shades books and after finishing this one it was NOTHING like fifty. The ONLY thing I could see that is similar at all what so ever would be the angst in the story. The fact that they just didn’t talk to each other when there was something that needed to be talked about.

That aside I did love the story. I am a sucker for an alpha male and well Travis is ALL alpha male and does underground fighting. Who could go wrong with that? Not me! I loved everything about him! Abby at times irritated me because all I wanted to do was yell at her STOP fighting it just get with him! haha I fell in absolute LOVE with Travis and just wanted to keep him for myself!

I mean when he says things like this who wouldn’t fall in love with him??

“You know why I want you? I didn’t know I was lost until you found me. I didn’t know what alone was until the first night I spent without you in my bed. You’re the one thing I’ve got right. You’re what I’ve been waiting for, Pigeon.”

Ahhhhh…. A beautiful disaster..

“It’s dangerous to need someone that much. You’re trying to save him and he’s hoping you can. You two are a disaster.” I smiled at the ceiling. “It doesn’t matter what or why it is. When it’s good, Kara… it’s beautiful.”

There were a lot of funny moments that had me laughing and this was one when she kept rolling her eyes when Trav was talking to her..

“Do you have a twitch?” “A what?” “A twitch. Your eyes keep wiggling around.” He laughed again when I glared at him.

There is a scene at the bar that had me laughing SO hard!!! Ahhh men… what they do when they don’t want other men dancing with their “girl”. Just thinking about it now makes me giggle.

When he started to call her pigeon I was a bit lost and couldn’t figure out why in the world he was calling her that since her name is Abby. Then he explains it:

“Abs? What are you, a workout video?” he sneered. “Pigeon?” I said with the same amount of disdain. “An annoying bird that craps all over the sidewalk?” You like Pigeon,” he said defensively. “It’s a dove, an attractive girl, a winning card in poker, take your pick. You’re my Pigeon.”

There is so much I enjoyed about this book and I will be reading it again when I get a chance to. And I also LOVE the fact that they are going to be turning it into a movie! And I can not wait for Walking Disaster which is this book but in Travis’ POV! I am so excited about it!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend it to ANY and EVERY one who wants a good angst filled love story! It was GOOD! I could sit here and quote the book all day but don’t want to do that haha so I will end with If you have NOT read this one you MUST!!! You will NOT regret it! It is SO worth it!

Review – Flat Out Love by Jessica Park

20120823-212302.jpg

GOODREADS DESCRIPTION: (portion)

Flat-Out Love is a warm and witty novel of family love and dysfunction, deep heartache and raw vulnerability, with a bit of mystery and one whopping, knock-you-to-your-knees romance.

Something is seriously off in the Watkins home. And Julie Seagle, college freshman, small-town Ohio transplant, and the newest resident of this Boston house, is determined to get to the bottom of it.

When Julie’s off-campus housing falls through, her mother’s old college roommate, Erin Watkins, invites her to move in. The parents, Erin and Roger, are welcoming, but emotionally distant and academically driven to eccentric extremes. The middle child, Matt, is an MIT tech geek with a sweet side … and the social skills of a spool of USB cable. The youngest, Celeste, is a frighteningly bright but freakishly fastidious 13-year-old who hauls around a life-sized cardboard cutout of her oldest brother almost everywhere she goes.

MY THOUGHTS:

I laughed quite a bit at the nutty humor in this one! I enjoyed the banter very much and then Celeste is introduced and she cracks me up and she also breaks my heart. I love how Julie interacts with everyone and how much she just fits in at the Watkins family. There were many moments that had me laughing and I just enjoy good back and forth banter then about maybe half way through I yelled out OH MY GOD! And my husband just looked at me crazy and asked me “okay what happened in your book now?” so I told him my revelation and he just wasn’t feeling it like I was.. I was invested in this story! I needed him to understand what was going on and he just didn’t so I told him to forget it! lol

“I hope that someday they invent a car that runs on inappropriate thoughts”

“Thinks that twitter is like facebook’s slutty cousin. It does everything dumb and whore-ish you’re too responsible to do”

I loved all the Facebook status updates she put in by the characters in the book.

“If you can’t stop thinking about someone’s update, that’s called “status cling.”

I would recommend this to anyone who would like a sweet read that is complicated as well, I did tear up a few times it did have heart wrenching moments. I did love this one and was really hoping that Jessica was going to do another book about them but I don’t think she is because I think for her that was the end of it. I kind of wanted more something to tell me how they are doing. So I can appreciate the fact that they haven’t come to her for another book. BUT I am still hoping. lol
