Title:  Old Wounds

Author: N.K. Smith

Series: Old Wounds #1

10 synopsis

Sent to live with her estranged father, troubled seventeen year Sophia Young is biding her time until school is over and freedom is hers. But running from her painful past is not as easy as she was expecting, especially after meeting a kindred spirit in Elliott Dalton, the shy, withdrawn son of a prominent doctor.

In the first novel of the series, they are paired together in therapy; a seemingly unlikely pair who have nothing in common.

Or do they?

For Sophia and Elliott are about to learn that appearances can be deceiving.

I wasn’t sure what to expect at first with this book.

I went a little click happy on Netgalley and this was one of them.

I was pleasantly surprised. I was pulled into it in the first chapter! This poor girl has gone through so much (well it is at first implied and we know what it is for the most part by the implications). We don’t really get the back story just that things were not good at home with her mother. She goes to live with her father after getting in trouble.

This is where we get to meet Elliot and his family. As well as other people from school.
I have to say that I instantly fell in love with Elliot! His story is another that we are left wondering exactly what happened to him.

I was happy to learn that this was a part of a series because when it ended I was left wanting more, wanting to know what happens now. Now that things were said and put out there and some things happen.

Sophie is not your “normal” (what ever that is) teen girl she is the tell you how it is kinda girl. One that smokes weed, curses, and is so broken and lost. Elliot is just as broken. They have to be around each other because of counseling she is required to do. As well as them having a class together.

It is a darker story, one that I never thought it would be. I am sure that there are many teens who have been through something similar or know someone who is in a broken home and have to deal with some of the issues that are touched upon.

I love that this isn’t the normal teenager in high school whose only issue is that her boyfriend is cheating on her, or her best friend is a back stabber. This is much deeper and darker than that. It touches on issues that are real and true for many I am sure. I always love getting a book that is just different from the norm.

What to say…when I was asked if I would read this and give an honest review I said sure. I had just finished a book and couldn’t pick what to start next (yes I am like many of you I have probably thousands of books on my TBR list) but I didn’t have to decide since it was decided for me. It always makes things easier for me when I just finish a book and can’t decide what to start next just to have an author ask me to review their book. I said sure and jumped right in.

This is the very first book that I have read that has the majority of the cast characters African-American. I loved the urban feel to the story. It was something I could relate to as well as enjoy!

I grew up in the “ghetto” of my town. The majority of the people who lived in my apartment complex were African-American. So when reading this I found myself laughing at so many different things. How real it felt, and how true to form she made these characters. There is so much to love about this book.

It starts off by telling you about Rayna’s homelife when she is in her senior year of school. We see how bad she just wants out of the projects. The author doesn’t spend a lot of time with her there in the projects but I know I want her out so bad!

She gets out and is bettering herself, goes to college and wants more than what she had back in the projects. Her best friend Michelle is the best thing for her. She is there for her and also does everything she can to help her in anyway possible.  She gets a job working with Michelle. Well not really ‘with’ her but more as an assistant out in California at the physical therapist’s office Michelle works at.

She meets Azmir, I actually love the moment of recognition! 🙂 Things with them spark they both feel it and she is hesitant and totally understandable. He is the wealthy man who is very attractive and women throw themselves at him often. She is tired of games and men tellin lies.  We don’t find out exactly who and what Azmir is all about till later in the book. We also get to watch him try to woo her.

I have seen someone rate this story as Fifty meets Gideon with Thug Life mixed in.

I have to agree. BUT if you are looking for the kinky sex, that is not in here, we do get sex, good sex but not the kinky bdsm kinda sex.

The Christian and Gideon analogy for me would be more for the wealth, broken past, possessiveness, and dominating personality. I just wanted to clear that up before anyone jumps into this expecting something they may not feel they received when they finish.

I loved this and maybe I liked it more than some because I could relate on different levels. Growing up in the ‘ghetto’ I had to keep a certain way about me to deal with the other females as well as the guys. I had to stand strong and not ever take crap from people. If you did just lay down and let people walk all over you, well you were done for. So I could connect with Rayna on that level.
This story kept my attention and made me want more. I was left wanting to know what is going to happen and when the truth about everything would surface. I will be reading this entire series and looking forward to the next book to come out.

I know some people will find the words she used for some body parts funny but well it wasn’t so over the top that I had to put it down.   “pearl, love canal, strongman…” lol I have read worse words used.

coochie creaming smile”

“I can smell you.” Abrubptly, I rise from his lap preparing to withdraw. He tightened the grip on my hips… “Don’t worry, it’s not offensive. In fact, to the contrary, it’s intoxicating…the bets sexual aroma I’ve ever experienced.”

“I can tell you’re not in it for this shit and I’ve always wanted a woman who I can…woo. You  make me want to woo you, Rayna.”

“I learned at a very young age to pick from the top of the tree of friends. Never pick at eye level or below you’ll never grow that way.”

“I wasn’t accustomed to friendliness from other females and therefore would always come across guarded just in case. Where I was from girls had ulterior motives for wanting to be friendly…”

Here are “SOME” of the characters… still workin on finding more of them.

Review ~ Cult of Beauty by K.M. Dylan

Book: Cult of Beauty: The Secret Life of a Supermodel

Author: K.M. Dylan

Supermodel Katie Wolfer takes a call from her stepfather as she steps off the Dior runway in Paris: her mother has died. As she struggles to move forward with her now-parentless life, two men loom large for Katie—Gavin Poole, a hot, emerging fashion designer with an inability to commit, and her charismatic, wealthy French stepfather, Daniel de Goncourt. Katie becomes entangled with both of them, exploring her darkest sexual desires amidst a lavish, decadent lifestyle.

Deeply erotic, thoughtful, and thrilling, this fashion model’s fictionalized memoir is sure to arouse and intrigue you.

~Our Thoughts~

Okay so my girl who is doing this blog with me didn’t care much for the book and so I was a little apprehensive when I finally got a chance to start it. I will have to say that yes this book may not be for everyone, I did like it. It was a good hot read that I was in need for and I do believe that is a HUGE reason as to why someone will or will not like your book. You have to be in the mood for that ‘type’ of book. There are a few books that I didn’t care for but others absolutely LOVED and well when it all comes down to it probably was because I was in the mood for something different then what that book was about. Anywho… with that being said here is what I thought of the book.

I started it and saw the forward and decided I wanted to know more about the author first before I got into it. It was set up as if the author was a model and I wanted to check it out and see if that was true or if it was just part of the book. So like I said I went to her Website and clicked on her about section and got so excited!

I am a former model. I am half French, half American and live in NYC. I love art, fashion, beauty and the erotic. I love to travel and especially the beach. Katie’s erotic adventures in the Cult of Beauty novels are loosely based on my own crazy experiences in life… The key word is “loosely!”

My taste as a reader and a writer is toward decadent erotica—women with a streak of perversity who enjoy sex for it’s own sake, who like to be dirty, and will get a little kinky—whether it be with other women, multiple partners or exploring S&M.

There is a little bit of everything in this book and maybe that is what I liked about it. There is crazy sex, drugs and some taboo things that go on.

It is not a long book so for me it was a quick read, with that you will see that it is very fast paced which I enjoyed because there was never a dull moment. While reading I wanted to believe that this is how it is for models because well in all fairness, in movies they are portrayed a lot in the way that it is written.

It would be awesome to hear some of her actual stories with no fiction mixed in because to be honest I wanted to believe that this was all about her and what she has been through. 🙂

There were so many different scenarios that were played out and all though there were a few spots that I felt that she could have gone more into the story because well I wanted to know more, like with Ryan, overall I did enjoy the whole story. I will have to say that ending left me wondering what the hell was going to happen. haha I was at a loss and didn’t know what to think, it was a bit of a cliffhanger.

This book is not for everyone and I understand that, there is SO much that goes on sex wise so if you are all about a hot steamy, sex filled book this is absolutely for you!

4 stars

Cult of Beauty is about a supermodel who gets the call that her mother has passed while shes finishing a fashion show in Paris. This pushes her into an erotic journey that includes women, her stepfather, college boys, drugs and extravagance. It honestly was hard for me to get into. I think the only thing that kept me reading was the hot sex! lol But overall the whole vibe of it was very strange for me. She lusted after her stepfather, wore her dead mothers pearl thong, did drugs with her stepfather, and had sex with anyone around including her step sister. It was just all over the place. I feel like there was a lack of connection to her for me. She had a complete lack of any emotion to losing her mom, although they were not close over the past few years. The ending kind of abruptly stopped and was sad as well. Sounds like there might be a sequel, but I’m not sure if I would read it. So besides the “hotness” of the sex, this book didnt draw me in like I wished it would.

Review – The Mighty Storm by Samantha Towle

It’s been twelve years since Tru Bennett last saw Jake Wethers, her former best friend and boy she once loved.

Jake Wethers, sexy, tattooed and deliciously bad lead singer, and brains behind The Mighty Storm, one of biggest bands in the world, left Tru with a broken heart when he moved from England to America with his family when they were both fourteen.

Sent to interview Jake for her music column by the magazine she works for, they are both unprepared for the sparks that fly the instant they reconnect. Only, there’s a complication to their instant feelings for one another – Will, Tru’s boyfriend of two years.

Then Jake makes Tru a job offer she can’t refuse – travelling the world with him and his band. But taking the job means leaving Will behind, and being on the road with the band means spending an inordinate amount of time with Jake.

Is Tru strong enough to resist the delectable bad boy who once held her heart so completely, or will she willingly risk it all for one night with the worlds most notorious womanizer?

Starting this book I was so excited I just love a rock star! But this one was nothing like the other books I have read that are based on rock stars. Usually you get all the banter between the members of the band and this one didn’t have much of that so that I was missing very much but this one was so full of angst and I am a sucker for some good angst filled books so how could I NOT love it?! All the hurt, loneliness, pain, loss, love there were so many times I wanted to just not put the book down but I had well my daily life things get in the way.

And who could disagree with Tru when she first sees Jake for the first time after 12 years…

what is it about men in jeans and bare feet which is so totally hot?

And Stuart… well I just loved him he is just the best!!! (he is Jake’s PR guy)

“Remember honey, he’s a man, and with men you just have to treat them like the children they are.”

OHHH so true at times!!! Lol

It took me longer then I wanted it to, to finish it. But once I hit about 70% through I couldn’t put it down so I was up until about 1230am reading until I finished last night! I had many moments in this book that my heart just broke. I got misty eyed, I giggled, I was happy, I was sad, and at one point I was so livid my heart was racing in aticipation and all I could think was NOOOO then with a turn of a doorknob I wanted to yell YOU ASSHOLE. It was as if I was the one there turning that knob I was so invested in this story at this point it was like I was there. And that does not happen with every book I read just the good ones! I could feel all the feelings that Tru was feeling at some points in the book and it just made it so much more enjoyable

I know for me I had gotten so worked up at one point that I couldn’t help but grin when there was one part that had me so giddy when there was an alpha man scene..

He looks down at his hand, then runs his tongue over his lip, licking the blood and smirks. “I’ll let you have the first one mother fucker, but not the next.”

I LOVE a rock star that is for sure and when music is brought in not just as what he does but as a way to explain how someone is feeling I just LOVE it. I know for me I listen to music that can explain how I feel at a specific time in my life it is a release for me. I know for right now I can not stop thinking about this one and wish I would have waited to read it so I had the second one to jump right into. I hate having to wait and spring of next year just seems to far away!

This one is definitely going onto my list of favorite rock star books.

I absolutely fell in LOVE with the cover of the first book!! It is SO beautiful and so fitting! I connected right away with Maggie I loved her imediately. I laughed and cried, oh how I cried! I am looking forward to Unbelievable comeing out and so excited that Unlovable is going to be made into an indie film!
