Ohhhh myyyy gooddnessss…..

Where to start. Okay I have said before I like the darker / taboo books and this would fit right in there. This was so heart wrenching.

This is my favorite one by Kitty Thomas so far! I have read most of her books and this one was awesome!

It only took me a few hours to read it. I couldn’t put it down once I started. I was so sucked in and needed to know what was going to happen.

What kills me is that stuff like this does happen and does go on. You have women who will sit and talk with people on the internet for a few weeks, months, and even years and they think they know and can trust the person only to find out that is not true. But when they find out it’s too late.

There are so many horrible things that happen to Grace. I am thankful that Kitty doesn’t go too much into detail on some of the stuff but she does give you just enough info to connect the dots yourself and it isn’t pretty. I am not sure if my imagination is worse than if she would have actually written out in detail what happend. At least that way I could say it was her writing not my mind. 😉

Asher, what can I say about him other than I loved him.

I kind of wish we got an epilogue to tell us how things were with Grace. She was so broken and abused and I would have loved to get a glimpse of how she was maybe 2 years from now kind of thing.

The only thing I didn’t like so much was that I  noticed with her books they just kind of end. I am not a big fan of just an abrupt ending and nothing more to the story but I liked this story! I can look past it. Same with Comfort Food. I enjoyed that one as well. I just wish they were longer and we got more…

 ~ Favorite Quotes ~

“Why would one own a pet if they only intended to mistreat it? … slaves were the same as pets. Why acquire one if you were just going to abuse it? You could never truly own something that hatted you.”

“For giving me the choice long enough to know I didn’t want that burden anymore. And for taking it away before I had to decide.”

10 synopsis

The exciting, titillating, and action-filled conclusion to Captive in the Dark.

What is the price of redemption?

Rescued from sexual slavery by a mysterious Pakistani officer, Caleb carries the weight of a debt that must be paid in blood.

The road has been long and fraught with uncertainty, but for Caleb and Livvie, it’s all coming to an end.

Can he surrender the woman he loves for the sake of vengeance?

Or will he make the ultimate sacrifice?

I have to say that with the first book I was not all that happy with Caleb at first. I really wanted to dislike him. But in this one, we get to find out how he feels about her, how he has his own demons.

There are a lot of twists and turns, many that I didn’t see coming. I always love a book that throws me off. And have to say I immediately wanted more about Agent Reed as well as Dr. Sloan. They were an interesting little side note that I enjoyed. I liked Dr. Sloan from the get go and at first I didn’t care much for Agent Reed but he grew on me. I could tell they both were genuinely worried about her and cared about her well-being.

Reading Olivia re-living everything was heart-wrenching at times. I honestly fell in love with Caleb and could see why she cared for him the way she did. There were also a couple of other key players in the book, where the majority of the book took place (from her memories). I enjoyed reading about them also, as much as I wanted to hate every single person that was a part of Caleb’s world it was hard at some points.

Forced slavery is never an easy subject to read about but this was written in a way that it never once made me want to just put down the book and say ‘no thank you’ I actually was pulled into the story and wanted to know more. Caleb and Olivia in one way were meant to be. He and her were so broken growing up. We get to find out more about him in this one, he opens up more to her so she gets to find out what happened to him growing up. We get to see her reactions to that as well as her trying to understand why he is the man he is.

There is a lot that happens and a lot that comes to light in this one. I have to say that when I finally got to the ending I felt okay with it. I would have been fine with how it ended and felt like I got closure on their story. But there is another she wrote for her fans, since they begged her to write more in this series.

This book series may be a bit disturbing for some and I understand that not everyone will enjoy it but I did, and I actually liked Caleb in the end. Okay I liked him about midway through the first book. 🙂

~ favorites ~

“I’ve been doing this a long time – manipulating people to get my way. That’s why you think you love me. Because I’ve broken you down and built you back up to believe it. It wasn’t an accident. Once you leave this behind…you’ll see that.”

“He leaned down and licked at one of the salty tears …”What are you doing?” She said and laughed. “I was Curious.” he whispered. “About what?” … “If happy tears taste the same as the sad ones.” he said”

“If it be thus to dream, still let me sleep.”

Title: Captive in the Dark

Author: CJ Roberts

Series: Dark Duet #1

10 synopsis

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For twelve years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature. If Caleb is to get close enough to strike, he must become the very thing he abhors and kidnap a beautiful girl to train her to be all that he once was.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Ruiz has just woken up in a strange place. Blindfolded and bound, there is only a calm male voice to welcome her. His name is Caleb, though he demands to be called Master. Olivia is young, beautiful, naïve and willful to a fault. She has a dark sensuality that cannot be hidden or denied, though she tries to accomplish both. Although she is frightened by the strong, sadistic, and arrogant man who holds her prisoner, what keeps Olivia awake in the dark is her unwelcome attraction to him.

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, strong language, and graphic violence.

Okay if you are looking for a good dark read this is deffinantely up that alley.

It took me a little time to actually like Caleb but it isn’t hard to actually like the guy even though he did kidnap Olivia with the intention of training her (well break her down) to be a pleasure slave. There is SOOO much more to the story than that.

A lot of people either love or hate this book and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I was so drawn into it.

There is a brokenness in her that you just hope he will help her fix and same in him, there is something that just needs to be addressed and to some point you get an idea what kind of man he is as you go. You find out quite a bit about him when we get to hear his thoughts. I mean what girl would grow up to be whole, happy and loved when your father tells you:

“Women are dirty whores and full of dirty blood, so every month they have to get rid of it.”

If you have an issue with forced submission this is NOT for you!

I on the otherhand couldn’t put it down I wanted to know what came next.

You can feel the connection that he has with her instantly. He doesn’t know how to deal with that. Before I read this story I saw people saying that they loved him so it was a bit hard to see it at first I really didn’t want to like him but towards the middle and end I can see it.

“Tears had always been mystifying to him. He liked looking at them, tasting them. Truth be told, they made him hard.”

Stockholms syndrome definitely takes a part in this book, but I can understand how that comes to play in the situations and things that happen.

There is quite a bit that happens and MAN; as I was reading it, all I could think was “what the hell goes on in C.J. Roberts mind? I would love to just see in there..” But then as I kept going there were a few times that I had that “yeah no, nevermind!” thought. haha

This isn’t for the weak of heart!

There is a lot that happens and goes on that is NOT okay, but it happens in fiction as well as in reality. I have read another series that has this aspect to it but it was never written from the girls POV who is the captive. We just get to get glimpses of what is going on. This was different, scary, sad, horrible all mixed into one. Yet there was something more to it. You could feel the emotion that lay beneath the surface for both of them.

This is absolutely not for everyone…

But I have to say I look forward to finish up this series I mean if it just gets better… I am on board!

This may not be for everyone but if you want something that leaves you saying WTF did I just read and why did I love it?! This is it!
