Life’s complicated

Life’s not fair

All is fair in love and war

You ever wonder what events led up to an individual’s inability to trust?

Love Lost starts off by peeling back layers of a young girl who experienced the loss of essential, reliable and nurturing love.

Rayna Brimm, hailing from an inner-city in New Jersey, survives a series of betrayal and loss only to forge forward in self-preservation and obtain an education in North Carolina. After receiving her degree, vowing never return home, she finds herself in California where she tries to build a self-contained life. She made a personal declaration to get through life without further dependence on others in order to avoid yet another heartbreak. Only, fate said otherwise.

Enter Azmir Jacobs, a tall, dark, handsome and very wealthy man, who has street credibility and executive power in the corporate world. Azmir has money, power and beautiful women at his beck and call, but only one woman has caught his eye. The resilient Rayna Brimm, a woman whose dysfunctional upbringing contributes towards her tough skin, issues with trust and a deep-seated fear to love, turns out to be more than he bargained for when he discovered her in his boardroom presenting a leasing proposal.

Rayna isn’t the only one with a checkered past. Can Azmir conceal his convoluted life long enough to prove that he can provide Rayna the stable and reliable love that she clearly needs and deserves? Or will his lofty lifestyle and endless resources scare her away?

Find out in this riveting conclusion how Rayna reconciles her inability to trust and willingness to explore love in ways she thought she wasn’t worthy of. See love redeemed for someone who thought it was not in the cards. Also, experience Azmir’s lessons on love, forgiveness, and acceptance as his world is transformed to include a life partner.

Review

This like the first was not a dissapointment for me. I enjoyed the story.

I was left wondering WTF? How are you going to end it like that? So yes there is a clifhanger. Leaves you wondering what the hell is going to happen next.

In the first book we get to see where Rayna comes from. I know a few people probably didn’t understand what the point of that part was. I believe that we have to see where she came from to see why she is how she is. It may be hard for some to understand how a girl can get out of the ghetto but when it is all you think about, knowing you want something better than what you have. You do what you have to, to get out. In this story we get to see her go back “home” for a visit or two. I am sure that there is a reason that we needed to know what we do about her beginnings. There is always a reason right? There are a few things that are still on my mind. Her ex O for one, I know he has to come back into play at some point. I mean she did take his money to move on and out of the ghetto. That  as well as her brother and sister who are still in that area. Then we got her momma. Okay so enough about that. It is all in my mind because at this point I am not 100% where the story is going, it can go in so many different directions.

Back to this one though. I love me some Azmir. He is so sweet when he wants to be but don’t get me wrong I would love to see him really lose his shit and let the ghetto come out, like full on come out lol. We did get a taste of it though.

He spoils Rayna…In book one we see that one of the first things he buys her is a Louis Vuitton luggage set. I mean who does that? Azmir that’s who… 🙂 He showers her with gifts and that is one thing that she is working on. It is hard to go from not really having much, to needing to work hard to earn what you have, to having things given to you just because. That is an adjustment.  We get to see her try to work through that issue because he gets upset when she doesn’t like him spending so much money on her. When your  with a guy who can literally buy you just about anything, it is a lifestyle change as well as something someone needs to learn to accept as well as adjust to.

I will have to say that it was awesome to see that she was able to contain her ghetto girl. I mean me personally having grown up in the not so great area, well I know that I will always have that part of me but when you are around people and don’t want them to know that part of you. You do what you need to, to conceal it. You will do what you need to, to ‘fit’ in. She has to fight back the desire to let Na Na out a time or two, and I have to say that I am proud of her for holdin it together because I know if it were me, that woldn’t have been able to happen. But she did good! 🙂  Rayna has also seemed to understand that if she keeps that part of her at bay she can get people to talk to her more. ahh the power of holding it together and putting on a smile.

Rayna goes through a hard time and some difficult things she needs to deal with and it is hard for her to lean on anyone, to go to them when she needs someone. She is good at pulling away and just keeping to herself as well as pushing people away. Azmir cares about her and has a hard time letting her work through her issues alone. But he gives her the little bit of space she needs, that is until he can’t take it any longer.

I honestly don’t know what to say about this book I could go on and on about it but don’t want to give away too much. There is a lot that happens, we get to see jealousy on both Rayna and Azmir’s side…

It leaves you wondering what is going to happen next.

interview

How did you come up with the concept for this series?

I started out just wanting to write a romance story about a young woman from humble beginnings. Then over time, as I started spending more time vetting the main characters, I grew intimate with them. In no time, what was intended to be a simple, one book romance novel turned into a darn series! Now the story includes two complicated individuals, accidentally bumping into an opportunity at love.

Are any of the characters based on people you know?

Not at all. These characters are purely fictional. Some names are borrowed from people actually know for comedic purposes, but that’s all.

What did your family/friends think about the book?

I’m getting GREAT responses from them. I won’t get used to this though. The first installment of Love’s Improbable Possibility (L.I.P) is still new yet, and we’ve recently released the second. I come from a religious family so I know I’m due a verbal thrashing somewhere down the pike. A.D. Jacobs enjoys himself some Rayna – intimately! LOL!!

What would you say is the easiest / hardest thing about writing?

The easiest thing is coming up with characters and scenes. The most challenging is getting the opportunity to sit down and record (write) them thoroughly.

What was the hardest part to write in Love Lost?

Rayna’s beginnings were hard to write and pre-edit. I had to adapt a certain mentality to make her environment come alive. It was difficult to stay true to the characters in the first two chapters because that portion of the storyline is so misleading. Some may start Love Lost and think it’s an urban novel when it isn’t. In the end, I decided to keep her childhood in the story because it truly demonstrates her struggle to accept love later on in the series.

Sidebar: I’m glad you didn’t ask about the easiest. ***face heating up***

Were there any authors that inspired you to write?

I can’t identify any authors who inspired me to write per se, but I enjoyed Eric Jerome Dickey when I started reading heavily. Since, I’ve enjoyed much of S.H. Kolee & Sylvia Day’s work.

How many books are you planning for this series?

There are four books in the L.I.P. series: Love Lost, Love UnExpected, Love UnChartered and Love Redeemed.

Tell us 3 things about yourself that not everyone knows

My birth certificate reads: Love Belvin (and in that order)

I don’t have a favorite author.

And I don’t fancy the word “cock”.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not writing (not counting reading)?

I LOVE following pop culture, learning what the celebrities are up to. I also enjoy going to live concerts.

~ Giveaway ~

When I started this whole blogging adventure I never thought that I would end up with a thousand people who like and follow me on Facebook. I had originally started it because I had been asked by some friends what I thought of some books, then when I had told them of a few ones that were really good they had asked what I would suggest to read next. I thought hmmm why not just start a page for them to follow what I think, then I looked into starting an actual blogging page. I have had so much fun reading, putting my reviews up and having people actually care about what I think. I love finding giveaways to share with people. I enjoy finding news on new books and sharing. So when I hit 1,000 on Facebook as well as hitting my 1 year of blogging, I wanted to put a giveaway together as a thank you!  I don’t do many giveaways so this has been fun and exciting for me.

I wanted to send out a huge thank you! Without these great authors (and more) I wouldn’t be able to do this!!!! So…

Thank You!!!!!! For all you do!!!

I don’t know if authors understand what they do for people like me (booklovers). We are able to sit and read, to escape from reality. Sometimes it is a need I am not sure many get unless you have a love and passion for books. When things may be too hectic or stressful we turn to you to help us leave it all behind even if for an hour or so. I know that a thank you may not be enough because to be honest I don’t feel that it can express to all the authors out there how much it means to us as readers!

Special Thank You to…

Review

What to say…when I was asked if I would read this and give an honest review I said sure. I had just finished a book and couldn’t pick what to start next (yes I am like many of you I have probably thousands of books on my TBR list) but I didn’t have to decide since it was decided for me. It always makes things easier for me when I just finish a book and can’t decide what to start next just to have an author ask me to review their book. I said sure and jumped right in.

This is the very first book that I have read that has the majority of the cast characters African-American. I loved the urban feel to the story. It was something I could relate to as well as enjoy!

I grew up in the “ghetto” of my town. The majority of the people who lived in my apartment complex were African-American. So when reading this I found myself laughing at so many different things. How real it felt, and how true to form she made these characters. There is so much to love about this book.

It starts off by telling you about Rayna’s homelife when she is in her senior year of school. We see how bad she just wants out of the projects. The author doesn’t spend a lot of time with her there in the projects but I know I want her out so bad!

She gets out and is bettering herself, goes to college and wants more than what she had back in the projects. Her best friend Michelle is the best thing for her. She is there for her and also does everything she can to help her in anyway possible.  She gets a job working with Michelle. Well not really ‘with’ her but more as an assistant out in California at the physical therapist’s office Michelle works at.

She meets Azmir, I actually love the moment of recognition! 🙂 Things with them spark they both feel it and she is hesitant and totally understandable. He is the wealthy man who is very attractive and women throw themselves at him often. She is tired of games and men tellin lies.  We don’t find out exactly who and what Azmir is all about till later in the book. We also get to watch him try to woo her.

I have seen someone rate this story as Fifty meets Gideon with Thug Life mixed in.

I have to agree. BUT if you are looking for the kinky sex, that is not in here, we do get sex, good sex but not the kinky bdsm kinda sex.

The Christian and Gideon analogy for me would be more for the wealth, broken past, possessiveness, and dominating personality. I just wanted to clear that up before anyone jumps into this expecting something they may not feel they received when they finish.

I loved this and maybe I liked it more than some because I could relate on different levels. Growing up in the ‘ghetto’ I had to keep a certain way about me to deal with the other females as well as the guys. I had to stand strong and not ever take crap from people. If you did just lay down and let people walk all over you, well you were done for. So I could connect with Rayna on that level.
This story kept my attention and made me want more. I was left wanting to know what is going to happen and when the truth about everything would surface. I will be reading this entire series and looking forward to the next book to come out.

I know some people will find the words she used for some body parts funny but well it wasn’t so over the top that I had to put it down.   “pearl, love canal, strongman…” lol I have read worse words used.

~favorites~

coochie creaming smile”

“I can smell you.” Abrubptly, I rise from his lap preparing to withdraw. He tightened the grip on my hips… “Don’t worry, it’s not offensive. In fact, to the contrary, it’s intoxicating…the bets sexual aroma I’ve ever experienced.”

“I can tell you’re not in it for this shit and I’ve always wanted a woman who I can…woo. You  make me want to woo you, Rayna.”

“I learned at a very young age to pick from the top of the tree of friends. Never pick at eye level or below you’ll never grow that way.”

“I wasn’t accustomed to friendliness from other females and therefore would always come across guarded just in case. Where I was from girls had ulterior motives for wanting to be friendly…”

Here are “SOME” of the characters… still workin on finding more of them.
